What’s this blogging thing you’re doing Anne?

During the Christmas holidays I said to Steven “let’s start a blog for six months while we’re not working”. He’s kind of used to me making random suggestions, that seemingly come out of nowhere, and jumping on board. We didn’t know anything about blogging but we’re always keen to try something new. In the last month I have learnt so much: I can reply to comments, Screenshot (1)know what a widget is and have made a customised header using Picmonkey. I have become obsessed with wasting time watching the stats page to see how many views we’ve had. We’ve discovered that blogging can be a great couple activity. After 28 years of marriage we are learning to communicate in a completely new way and that’s fun.

Now I’ve joined Blogging 201, a WordPress course for newbies like me, and they’ve asked me to write three goals for my blog. Despite having taught goal setting for years it’s not my thing, I’m much more interested in discovering where this goes than having a final destination. So these are my ‘for now’ goals. I’m open to change and hoping for surprises.

Goal 1. Create an online presence so that when my book is finished I have a platform to promote it. That’s still some months away. Visit Meet Anne & Steve or Drowning in Documents for a little more about the book.

Goal 2. Steven and I will each publish at least one post a week. So far we’re blitzing that. I wonder, how many posts a week would be too much?

Goal 3. Just write what we want to and see what happens. Don’t get caught up in trying to get followers at this stage. Lets just see who wants to join us on our journey.

Love this idea please teach me how it works while we are on the trail. Need to understand where all the different posts are – maybe I just need to spend a bit of time looking through it with an open mind….looking forward to our few days together!

Be happy to teach you about it. Be careful you may become a blog topic.

I like this “blogging thing you are doing”. I can already see that both you and Steve are really getting into it and enjoying what you are getting out of it! Enjoy the journey into this newfound adventure, and I wish you the best of luck with the book project.
Anne, Don’t forget your friends when you become famous!
